March 3 Meeting on Social Media

IMG_9509 - Version 2Join us on March 3 at Jonathan’s Grille in Green Hills with author and book lover Mary Laura Philpott of Parnassus Books and NPT’s “A Word on Words” as we discuss how readers and writers can enjoy the “bookternet” and even embrace social media.  The meeting is free and open to the public. It will start at 6, with drinks and dinner at 5 if you wish to come early. Our inclement weather policy is to cancel if the Metro schools are closed.

This month’s program is The Art of the Review:

Do book reviews still matter? Who generates them? How do such reviews impact book lovers and the publishing landscape? Join us for a lively discussion about reviews with these extraordinary panelists: author/bookseller River Jordan; novelist Patti Callahan Henry; author Jamie Blaine; and WNBA member and book reviewer Roger Bishop.

Fourth Annual WNBA Writing Contest

Writing contest WNBA-Nashville chapterEntries are now being accepted for the Fourth Annual WNBA Writing Contest. Categories are:

Fiction:
Includes short fiction, novel excerpts and flash fiction. 2,500-3,000 words maximum.

Nonfiction:
Includes memoir, personal essay and commentary.
2,500 words maximum.

Poetry:
3-5 pages of poetry.

WNBA members: $15 per entry
Non-members: $20 per entry

WNBA National Board Meeting 2015

Please check out this post by Kate Farrell on the San Francisco chapter’s website to learn more about our organization, its history, and some of the plans in the works for our 100th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Women’s National Book Association in 1917 by 15 women booksellers at Sherwood’s Book Store in New York City.

Monthly Meetings Resume in September

Please note there will be no monthly meetings from June through August. Our meetings will resume the first Thursday in September. We look forward to seeing you then!
